There may be occasions where you do not want your projects and exclusion zones to be visible to all SmarterWX users. For example, you may want to look for collaboration opportunities for the replacement of an asset as it approaches end of life but before a replacement project has been planned.

SmarterWX provides two options for keeping your data private – flagging individual projects as private or blocking a SmarterWX organisation.

Marking a Project as Private

An optional “PRIVATE” attribute can be included on your Projects and Exclusion Zones. If included the value can be either true, false or blank. (A blank value is the same as false).

If the PRIVATE attribute is set to true, the project (or exclusion zone) will not be visible to other organisations. Private projects will be shown with a red padlock to indicate it is hidden from other organisations.

Private Flag on a Project

A private project can create an opportunity when it matches with another organisation’s project but the opportunity will only be created for your organisation. No opportunity (or conflict) will ever be created for another organisation for a private project.

Blocking an Organisation

You may wish to hide your data entirely from a particular organisation. For example, this might be for competition or commercial tendering reasons.

An organisation block is always bi-directional. If you block the “Electric Company”, you cannot see any data relating to the Electric Company and the Electric Company cannot see any of your data. No opportunities or conflicts will be created. Both sides of a “block” would need to unblock in order for the data to be visible.

An Organisation Administrator can access the “Privacy Settings” option from the user menu.

Privacy Settings

The eye indicator lets you know if the other organisation is currently blocking you. The BLOCK button allows you to add a block. The UNBLOCK button removes a block.

When you are first created as an organisation in SmarterWX, we add blocks for all organisations that do not share an area of operation with your area or neighbour your area. This is the default setting and you can choose to unblock.

Note: Opportunities and Exclusion Zone Conflicts are always private to your organisation. Even though the projects making up the opportunity are shared, the opportunity itself is not visible outside your organisation. Similarly, custom fields and project savings are always visible only within your organisation.
